This painting seemed to create itself. The angle of the shadows from the tree lead the eye across the canvas down the towpath as it disappears into the distance. This conveys a sense of space and perspective. Sometimes the shadow is the most dominant feature of the work. On this occasion the colours were very intense and saturated and are constantly changing, depending on the time of day. This towpath walk, a favourite, offers a feast every visit.
The Year of the Tree 73 by Jane Price
Jane Price lives and works in Chiswick, London. Much of Jane’s recent work is centred on landscapes dominated by trees, woodland and sunlight. In 2010 Jane was shortlisted for the John Moores Art Prize, and in 2014 she was selected for the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition. Jane works primarily on canvas using acrylics and charcoal.
