Artist's Statement

David Barrow's most recent body of work brings to life the freedom of childhood through a naive style. He encapsulates the spirit of children playing using pastel colours and repetitions of shapes and patterns. The repetition creates a unique and contemporary style that gives the series uniformity. It also creates a rhythm, breathing life into the paintings and narrating the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

David visited Cornwall in 2019, where he went to a wedding. He was captivated by the stunning scenery and beauty of the place in the vibrant summer sun. David made lots of sketches during his stay. When he returned home he painted his interpretation of the views he saw.

Boats and boats by David Barrow

  • David Barrow was born in 1959, in Parbold and spent his formative years there. Then moving to Wigan, he began painting seriously at the age of 19. Proud of his hometown, David’s work has developed in style over the years, yet remains consistently autobiographical and nostalgic. David has vividly captured Wigan and Parbold in a number of well-regarded oil paintings. They show the heritage of where he grew up and raised his own family. David’s paintings have been featured five times in the Summer exhibition at the Royal Academy, and he has also exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy of Fine Art.

Virtual Images - Where artworks are shown framed or within a room setting the images have been created using virtual/augmented reality software in some instances. The images are provided to give an idea of the scale of the artwork in the context of a room and the style of the framing. They should not be viewed as completely accurate e.g. the scale and the style/colours of the frame may vary slightly.

An online gallery with an augmented reality option is very forward looking and very appealing to the buyer.

The picture arrived this afternoon, very well packed and in excellent condition. It is indeed a very fine picture.

The painting is received and is a really nice small study-like work...

Thank you very much for all your help.
