Artist’s Statement
This painting has both a classical, renaissance and contemporary feel to it. The use of crimson, ochres and greens against the white of the figure’s dress is a more traditional use of colour. The figure is a powerful lady, she is floating above the ground in front of her wagon and her belongings, including a bird cage, symbolising her breaking free, she is a mistress of her own right.
