Figure, Space, Light

The series of figure paintings has been constructed using particular spaces and places as a source.  Often, the idea arises from an observed image which hangs around for months and sometimes years before I establish a narrative which is bound to a particular time of day or extreme light – the ‘magic hour’ of dawn or dusk is often seen as forcing a hallucinatory experience.

  • Gethin Evans moved from Maesteg, South Wales to study on the Foundation Course at the Byam Shaw School of Art in 1974, and has lived and worked in London since that time. Early influences include Italian painters of the 14th and 15th Century, particularly the frescos of Masaccio and Piero Della Francesca that he encountered on a travelling award to Italy when studying at Camberwell School of Art. He has been the recipient of the David Murrey Landscape award and the Melville Nettleship Prize for Figure Composition and has organised and co- curetted exhibitions in London at the Small Mansion Arts Centre, and’ Territories’ – a travelling exhibition to DenHelder, Holland and Bow Arts Centre, London.  He has exhibited widely in the UK, most recently in the Wales Contemporary Open and the Discerning Eye exhibition.

Virtual Images - Where artworks are shown framed or within a room setting the images have been created using virtual/augmented reality software in some instances. The images are provided to give an idea of the scale of the artwork in the context of a room and the style of the framing. They should not be viewed as completely accurate e.g. the scale and the style/colours of the frame may vary slightly.

An online gallery with an augmented reality option is very forward looking and very appealing to the buyer.

The picture arrived this afternoon, very well packed and in excellent condition. It is indeed a very fine picture.

The painting is received and is a really nice small study-like work...

Thank you very much for all your help.
