Artist’s Statement
I am endlessly impressed by the dignity and forgiveness shown by Nelson Mandela on his release from prison, having had every right to be angry and resentful.
Hopefully this painting gives a sense of serenity and peace of a great man as he entered the last years of his life.

Paul Wright was born in Leicester in 1973. Paul is an award winning artist who has spent the last 20 years developing a painterly language through which he seeks to capture a vitality beyond the establishment of a mere ‘likeness’ to the subject.
Paul has a degree in Illustration attained at the Falmouth School of Art. Paul has exhibited both nationally and internationally and been included in the highly prestigious National Portrait Gallery, BP portrait award exhibition on more than one occasion.
